Project Description
Historical renovation of an 11,800 square foot WWII wood framed building with construction of separate NOAA Ships Operations offices inside the building that included new power, communications, plumbing, HVAC systems, mezzanine storage, high cube warehouse storage, and secured storage withing the warehouse.. Fire protection systems for the office, warehouse, and hazmat storage shed were also provided. A new roadway and new underground utilities to support the building and two renovated piers with new electrical substations for each pier were also provided.
Electrical work includes installation, startup and commissioning of 13,000 feet of 15kV, 500MCM cable, six new full size electrical manholes with associated ductbanks, two 12.47kV to 480V single ended unit substations with 1200A electrically operated primary switchgear and two 1500kVA transformers, four 480V, 1600A ship to shore power mounds, 23,000 feet of 750MCM, 600V power cable, extensive under pier conduit and cabling systems, exterior lighting, fire alarm systems, one 750kVA, 12.27kV pad transformer, one 208V, 2000A switchboard, and various communication system cabling.
Also included was the installation and commissioning of two 15kV, 1200A switchgear cubicles added onto the ends of an existing switchgear lineup at Station TD.
Lewis Electric self performed and is overall responsible for all project electrical work and coordination with other trades, the prime contractor and subcontractors. Lewis Electric onsite electrical superintendant was Lee Lewis who managed an electrical crew of up to 10 journeyman electricians, electrical apprentices and technician specialists.
