Project Description
The work includes construction of a new single story steel framed structure facility at Naval Communication and Telecommunication Area Master Station (NCTAMS) in Wahiawa, Hawaii. This building is over 76,339 square feet and has spaces for storage, supply, staging areas training and conference rooms, private offices, general administrative areas, shower/toilets, operational rooms, communications rooms and equipment maintenance rooms.
This facility includes raised floors, mobile high density storage, access control, surveillance and intrusion detection systems, cooling tower and chiller units, climate control and DDC system, overhead paging system, redundant emergency generators for backup power, redundant uninterruptible power supplies for critical loads, air conditioning systems, sub floor plenum air conditioning system, fire alarm and suppression system, integrated with occupant mass notification system. Other work includes construction of a new 11.5kV Navy switching station. Supporting facilities include electrical and communication work in existing buildings 12A, 261, 409 and HRSOC Operations.manholes.
Electrical work includes installation, startup and commissioning of 23,400 feet of 15kV, 500MCM cable, 576,000 feet of 600V wire and cable, seventeen new full size octagonal electrical manholes, one telecommunication manhole, two Prolec 3000kVA, 12.47kV to 480V single ended unit substations with 1200A electrically operated primary GE switchgear, three Detroit Diesel/Kohler 2000kW, 480V engine generators, one Kohler 5000A, 480V synchronizing switchgear lineup with PLC touch screen controller, three GE Zenith 500kVA, 480V UPS systems with bypass, one 1600A critical switchboard, one 480V, 800A mechanical distribution switchboard, one 480V, 1000A mechanical distribution switchboard, nine 480V, 225A, 100% neutral panelboards, two 480V, 400A, 100% neutral switchboards, four 208V, 600A, 200% neutral switchboards,six 208V, 400A, 200% neutral switchboards, two 208V, 400A, 100% neutral switchboards, seventy four 208V, 225A, 150% neutral panelboards, four 208V, 225A, 100% neutral panelboards, two 208V, 175A, 100% neutral panelboards, three 208V, 100A, 150% neutral panelboards and fifteen dry type transformers ranging up to 150kVA. Work at the Navy switching station included installation and startup of one GE 12.47kV, 1200A switchgear lineup. Approximately 75,000 square feet of 4 inch square copper mesh for the signal reference grid was installed using approximately 7500 cad welds.
Lewis Electric self performed and is overall responsible for all project electrical work and coordination with other trades, the prime contractor and subcontractors. Lewis Electric onsite electrical superintendant is Buddy Bond who managed an electrical crew of up to 20 journeyman electricians, electrical apprentices and technician specialists.
