Project Description

Design build construction of a new distributed ground system facility inside existing Hanger 5 at Hickam Air Force Base in Ohau, Hawaii. A Secure Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) was constructed to support ANQ-272 Sentinel Weapons System's Pacific node, Distributed Ground System. The DCGS-5 is the primary intelligence exploitation node for PACAF Global Hawk, Predator and U-2 operations. This two story building is over 26,000 square feet and has spaces for storage, supply, staging areas training and conference rooms, private offices, general administrative areas, shower/toilets, operational rooms, communications rooms and equipment maintenance rooms.p>

This facility includes raised floors, mobile high density storage, access control, surveillance and intrusion detection systems, cooling tower and chiller unit, climate control and DDC system, overhead paging system, redundant emergency generator for backup power, elevator system, redundant uninterruptible power supplies for critical loads, VFD air handling and conditioning systems, sub floor plenum air conditioning system, new analog/addressable fire alarm and suppression system, extend existing analog/addressable fire alarm system, integrated with occupant mass notification system. Other work includes addition of a new generator and synchronizing switchgear to an existing power plant at building 1109.

Electrical work includes installation, startup and commissioning two 2500kVA, 12.47kV to 480V pad transformers, addition of one 800kW engine generator to an existing 3750kW power plant at building 1109, addition of one new 480V, 6000A synchronizing switchgear section to an existing lineup, one 480V, 1200A, switchboard, one 480V, 800A switchboard, one 480V, 600A critical load switchboard, seven 480V, 225A panelboards, and one 225kVA dry type transformer.

Work was conducted concurrently with the Government furnished, Government installation of two 400kVA UPS systems with bypass, six power distribution units (PDU's) rated from 75kVA to 225kVA.

Lewis Electric self performed and is overall responsible for all project electrical work and coordination with other trades, the prime contractor and subcontractors. Lewis Electric onsite electrical superintendant is David Bush who managed an electrical crew of up to 10 journeyman electricians, electrical apprentices and technician specialists.
